Gym Geek

Like everything in my life I go full out. No half measures for me!

As mentioned a short time ago I started going to a gym called the Fit Club. It was almost out of necessity as with not being able to run or ride my bike on the road I was going crazy from inactivity. My physio is the director of the club and he took me along to show me a beginning weights programme, which I've been doing for 12 days now. He recommended starting weights, which of course I quickly increased as I love a challenge and with me being an obsessive type. Have also been daily on the exercycle and rowing machine and I'm really happy to be putting my body through its paces! I'm now a fully pledged member at $13 a week. I've been going twice a day some days.

Here are some photos, courteousy of Lea, of my gym session with weights. I do 3 x 10 on 5 different equipment but 3 of those do not have photos!

Pushing out 60 lbs

Leg lifts 60 lbs

100 leg pushes

100 arm pulls

Lea had a little go but she wasn't dressed for it

                                                            15 minutes on the exercycle

Starting to get a bit hard now and a little tired...much harder than on the road as no cruising!

I'm really enjoying the gym sessions as it is a new challenge, though riding an exercycle does not hold as much appeal as riding up hills and being out on the country roads. Really like seeing what weights I can manage on the 5 different equipments I've been doing. It is really pleasing to see the improvement in a short time.

I'm sure Marion is probably having a little chuckle as she reads this but everyone has to start somewhere!

Must sign off as I have comments to make and a gym session awaits me!

  4. Hi Paul! Yes, your recovery is really going well!

I had gym pics taken today too! My husband followed me around the gym. I did one exercise long enough to take a good pic, and then we moved to the next. So photos were terrible with blurriness. Others were pretty great. I got a good photo of me doing splits. The weight lifting guys thought my dips were awesome.

    1. Look forward to seeing you in action, Marion! I can get nowhere near a split...too many years of running and not enough flexibility exercises.

  5. Be careful, Paul. I can see you going whole-hog and becoming a bodybuilder. :)

You look great for someone who just broke their hip - for some reason I thought you might have a cast or a brace or something like that.

Good job on the exercycle - hang in there and pretty soon you'll be back on those country roads.

  6. Just what you needed, Paul, although I have to say that the equipment would frighten me to death....lol.

  7. Wow! I am impressed. I lift weights, too you know...but they are disguised as yarn skeins!

I'd love to see some of Lea's crafty adventures on your blog...or maybe she needs to start a blog of her own!

You two be careful out there in the gym, no over doing it! :)

    Blessings to you both

  8. I'm giggling so hard at Stitchy's weights comment, I forgot what I was going to write!!! I think it's awesome you are able to do this at this stage in your recovery. Also fantastic to get such a low monthly rate; you should see the price gymns are going for here in an American metro area... And how exciting that you are even able to use the indoor bike at this stage. I know every case is different, and people heal at different rates, but I think you are making significant progress.

  9. Unquestionably believe that which you stated.
Your favorite justification appeared to be on the internet the simplest thing to
be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get irked while people
think about worries that they just do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined
out the whole thing without having side effect , people could take a signal.

Will probably be back to get more. Thanks

  11. Hey Paul!
I understand so much what you mean...it's nice to stay fit, but nothing like being outside, right?
Perhaps you could open a gym yourself, start a whole chain of them, have them all over the world and you could make the whole world a better, healthier place!!
    Hey, I am a dreamer!
Glad you are healing so nicely.

  12. Paul,

From certain angles you bear a striking resemblance to Lance Armstrong.

Keep up the workouts, they pay off. Not only in you physical well-being but your mental health.
