Cycling Crazy

It is now 10 weeks since my accident! After working out in the gym for a few weeks, last weekend I tentatively ventured out on my bike. What a wonderful but slightly nervous moment it was!

As horrific the accident and the pain of the break and subsequent recovery period was, I am and will remain a passionate and somewhat crazy cyclist. Technically 12 weeks is the recovery time for this injury but I couldn't resist getting on my bike. It is a tad risky but I am cautiously riding on quiet dry roads with super sensitive senses.

Here are some photos of happier times on that fateful ride!

Keep it steady...

Now you've got him

Pulling away...

Today I ventured further afield and ended up doing a 2 hour ride. I really love being out on the bike again and called in to see my coach, Bob who runs an apparrel sports clothing line called Elite Gear. Since my shorts and top were cut off me at the time of the accident I needed to purchase some new gear to make me look the part in my cycling resurgence.

What do you think?

Was a great ride though a little windy. Most importantly I stayed on the bike.

  1. Hurray for you. I can just imagine how good it must have felt to you to have your wheels under you again, the breezes on your skin. Exhilarating and healing of body, mind and spirit.

  3. Paul,

I'm sorry but I missed the news of your accident. I hope you heal quickly and are back in form soon to enjoy the open sky and sea breezes. Looking good in your spandex I might add. :)

  6. You look in fine form! Happy to hear that you are doing well and are back on the bike where you love to be. I don't blame you for being nervous, I know I would be but the more you are on it the more confident you will be. Stay safe!

  10. Look at you! It seems you have made a remarkable and full recovery..as I knew you would. Being in good shape to begin with certainly helps in the healing. Yep, getting back on the "horse" and riding again is the best way to overcome any post stress or fear. You look wonderful and I bet you'll be racing again soon! Be safe! Congrats!

  11. Congratulations on getting back on the bike! I was scared but anxious after my accident, too. I sure didn't get a two-hour ride the first time! That's marvelous! And how exciting to see pictures of the ride before the moment that temporarily changed your life.

The new kit is awesome! May it see many, many miles!

  13. Hi Paul! I bet it is such a relief to be back on a bike, even if only for a gentle ride.

It should say, "Elite Guy" on it.

  14. Very nice, Paul! I like it. Congratulations on getting back on your bike. This is the first time I've been able to visit a little since returning from China where blogs, Google and Facebook is banned.

  15. I'm glad you've decided to pick up cycling again, and your passion for it remains as it was before. As a matter of fact, it can be hard to get over the trauma of what happened, but I hope you'll get there—slowly but surely. But the added cautiousness is certainly something that is of benefit, regardless of what happened. I hope you have an easier time going through all the necessary legal proceedings following your accident, and any claims of personal injury that you make will be met.
