On the Mend

My enforced lay off from exercise and isolation from normal living has given me food for thought!

As most of you know before my accident I was extremely active and possibly with all the changes in my life over the last 6 months I needed some time to slow everything down. I wasn't however prepared for how slow it would become.

I had a great response from my Depression posts and I really appreciated hearing my readers' stories!

The hip is feeling a lot better and I'm moving much easier although the blood clot has tightened my lower leg. The doctor gave me an injection and tablets yesterday and in a few hours I have the challenge of injecting myself in the abdomen. I will be repeating this for the next 3 days!

I have enjoyed doing my blogging and watching some sport. A man is coming to tune my piano this afternoon so it will be good to be able to play without the notes sticking.

Here is a cover of Thirteen that one of my favourite singers Elliott Smith played at many of his concerts. It is a song about young love. At the age of 54 I still feel like a kid and love I believe keeps you young at heart. Some of you old followers, not necessarily in years may have heard it before. I love it! I think it is a wonderfully positive song!

Hope you are all well and that you enjoy the opportunities that every day brings you. Be in touch soon!

  2. Hi Paul! Ah, I feel so so so bad for your loss of fitness right now. I'm sure it drives you way (!!!) more nuts than you ever admit to. You really have a good attitude considering everything.

  5. Good to hear things are looking up!

What you say about needing life to slow down a bit I have found to be true, too. In November 2009, my husband died completely unexpectedly at the age of 41. All through 2010, I kept very busy and active, until in the autumn of that year I needed some minor surgery which forced me to stay a week in hospital, three weeks at home and six weeks without running or any other strenuous activity. That was an important time for me, and lead to major changes in my life in the spring of 2011.

  7. I'm pleased things are going well on the health front, Paul. Perhaps you needed some slow-down time. I don't envy you the job of injecting yourself... do let us know what it feels like.

  8. Oh Paul, I missed several posts and didn't realise you'd gotten a blood clot. So glad they caught it before it travelled to the lungs. Mr. M and I went to England 3 years ago to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. While there he was strangely fatigued and breathless, and after we got home he started having chest pains. Turned out he had PEs - several small ones - probably from a DVT in the leg caused by the long overseas flight. After a scary night in hospital, he was sent home with the injections. Then he was on warfarin therapy for some months. Unfortunately the pulmonary emboli seem to have damaged his lungs a bit and he still can't exercise much without getting breathless. So I'm very very glad yours was caught early! Yes, it may retard your progress a bit, but I am sure you will still bounce back in good time. Hang in there and remember you CAN eat leafy greens - in moderation. :)

P.S. Try not to cut yourself shaving.... ;)
