Surf, sea and sand

With the ending of day light saving and the appearance of dark clouds, wind and rain, I look back to the summer as it passes and fades almost into a distant memory.

I really enjoyed getting out on my bike, often morning and night. Now it is getting dark by 6 pm and making the daily cycle more of a challenge.

Not really being able to run has given me a reason to take the cycling more seriously and I have had many races over the summer. I'm finding I'm getting stronger and faster on the hills and on the flat. Yesterday I rode in the Wellington Road Championships over 75 hilly km's [48 miles] and finished 3rd in my age group. On the flatter parts of the course we reached speeds of over 50 kph [32 mph]. It is exciting to have new challenges and encouraging to see the improvement I'm making under my coach, Bob. He says that in another year I should be extremely competitive at the rate I'm going in my training and racing.

Thought I'd leave you with some photos from the summer days at the beach. It was lovely soaking up the warm rays and cooling off in the refreshing surf.

Can't get me

It's good to be back! With the school holidays coming up I hope to have more time and photo opportunities to grace you with my company again soon. NO PROMISES!

  1. Welcome back, Paul. Good to see you haven't forgotten how to blog.... smiles. It seems strange to me that as we head into light nights and warmer days you are experiencing just the opposite. Enjoyed the pictures and I'm glad you're able to carry on with the cycling.

  7. Hi Paul! It's been fun catching up on your recent posts. I've been in and out of posting myself, so I missed the days you had posted since your birthday with that awesome AllSorts cake! I'm glad to hear that your cycling is coming along so well. You summer photos are beautiful. I'm excited here because it's finally light after 6 pm! LOL! We not through our final snowfall for the winter yet, but I'm looking forward to summer fun. Caitlyn and Bianca look very cute as they work out. Looks like you're setting well into your new house. I've learned not to make blog promises either ~ something is always happening! I'm happy to see my blogging friends post when they can! Take care!

  8. Well you are obviously back in the game! Wow - great cycling news! The beach looks wonderful - I can't quite remember that such a thing as summer exists but your photos give me hope that it does. If only it can make it all the way up here to Wisconsin....

Keep up the great riding, and it's good to hear from you again. :)
